Read MoreThe 101 Word Raccoon Chronicles–Chapter Four
If you missed Chapter 1-3, here they are Today’s Random Keywords: intestine, umbilical, loopy Chapter Four Creak went the panel above me. Something scratched: nails on wood. I kept ascending the rungs, holding the flashlight like an umbilical cord. I slid the panel and expected a loopy face-hugger to fall on my head, hump my throat and impregnate my large intestine. Instead I saw darkness. Silence–the muffled sounds of nothing. I poked my head through. Click went my flashlight. The first thing the shaky beam caught was the torn vent, metal tangled and punched inward, as...
Read MoreInterview with Jen Wylie
I’ve been following Jen Wylie on Twitter for a while. After reading her blog and excerpts from some of her available works, I wanted to find out more. Tell me about your books. My first novel, Sweet Light, is coming out very soon! (I’m extremely excited-and a bit nervous!) This story has been with me a very long time, I started it 8 or 9 years ago and then kept writing and writing. Eventually my family talked me into looking for a publisher a few years ago and after collecting a number of rejections I finally found one. Sweet Light is an adult fantasy novel with a good dose of...

Read MoreInterview with Shay Fabbro
I connected with Shay on Facebook. She’s a fellow writer, who seemed passionate about the craft. The genre and plot of The Chosen intrigued me, so I’ve subjected her to a few questions. BONUS: Shay is giving away a free ebook copy of The Chosen to a random commenter on this post! Hot damn! So leave a comment for a chance to win. Make sure to leave your email, and if you’re chosen, Shay will send it to you in any e-format you prefer. Tell me about The Chosen. The Chosen is the first in a trilogy called The Portals of Destiny. It’s a blend of scifi and fantasy which the...
Read MoreBook Cover Bias
I’m one of those people who shouts, “Ooh! Colors pretty!” at a nice book cover. If I’m at the bookstore, I want to hold the precious; if I’m on Amazon, I’m more apt to scroll the reviews and summary. The author has my attention…at least for the next ten seconds. For me, the greatest covers belong to the Choose Your Own Adventure series. This article from Slate made me feel all gushy and nostalgic. Even now, when I see that familiar font, and those cover pictures it brings me back. I used to read those books every day until I wore them out. Which Way...
Read MoreAuthor Interview with India Drummond
India Drummond is one of my fellow authors at Lyrical Press. I’ve beta-read one of her upcoming books, and I can tell you she’s talented. India is great with character-depth and story. I’ve given her a platform here to discuss her latest book, Ordinary Angels. 1) Tell us about Ordinary Angels. Ordinary Angels is an urban fantasy / paranormal romance novel in which Zoe Pendergraft falls in love with an angel, frees a soul from necromancers, releases a ghost trapped in the Void, and saves his living grandson from demons. Most of Zoe’s friends are dead, but she...
Read MoreZombie Luv Flash Fic Contest: Leaving Gary
Leaving Gary Gary knows how to make me smile. He crawls along the bottom of the pond. His arms, severed at the elbow, sink into the sediment with every inch. Sink, lift, sink, lift, sink… Funny. His leg-stumps flail, stirring up the algae. Gary isn’t going anywhere; he’s tethered to my ankle by a thick chain. I watch my husband squirm for a while, then I unhook him. Gary lurches forward and breaks the surface. I pull all the bricks out of my skirt and my body buoys. It’s Date Night. Layers of muck separate as I crown. A duck quacks and flies away. I wring out my hair....
